Tree Hammocks

Got the Trees? Make 'em Work! When you think of a hammock, you probably picture a rope hammock, gently swaying between two large trees ... and hopefully, you're in it. This is indeed a very common setup for hammocks, and perhaps the most traditional: the tree hammock. Hammocks of any kind (rope, fabric, quilted) are generally designed to be attached to two appropriately spaced trees. Once you've found your trees, install the hanging hardware that probably came with your hammock; this may consist of metal hooks that you drive into the tree and attach to each end of the hammock with a hook. If you're leery about damaging the tree, you might try hammock tree straps. The straps fit around the trunk of the tree and distribute your weight over a larger area. This protects the bark of the tree from damage from the pull of the hammock and lets you avoid drilling holes in your trees.

Hammock tree straps are also an excellent solution if you want to be able to hang your hammock in more than one place. They're easy to put up and take down, so you have the freedom to move your hammock from tree to tree without much trouble. This can be convenient if you're using a hammock that needs to be protected from the weather, or even just if you want to move from one spot to another to stay in or out of full shade from morning to afternoon (lucky you, out in your hammock all day!). They're also great for camping.

Of course, you can still enjoy a tree hammock even if you don't have appropriately spaced trees. Sturdy hammock posts can be driven into the ground, and the hammock can be attached with hardware or tree straps. A freestanding hammock stand can also be a very simple and portable solution for enjoying a tree hammock.
