The Difference Among Rope Hammocks ...
Some hammocks are made with thin rope cord only 4mm to 6mm wide. Our Island Bay is made with 8mm rope, soft spun for comfort. The extreme thickness makes the rope much hardier; thinner ropes wear out faster and may not hold up to inclement weather conditions. Soft-spun 8mm rope cord gives our hammock the greatest possible balance of quality, comfort, and durability.

Last year, I bought my first home. First to stake claim in the backyard were my beloved rope hammock and stand. I have owned this hammock for over four years now; it was my first purchase when I started working for Hammocks.com. The hammock is enjoyed by many, including one particularly adoring four-legged fan. My little sister's dog, Kennedy, is a 16-month-old Miniature Bull Terrier who rules the household – my hammock falls under Kennedy's jurisdiction as well. No one is allowed to sit in the hammock and relax while Kennedy is outside; it is Kennedy’s throne. The hammock itself has held up very well; it's a little weathered on the spreader bars, but after four years, it still holds up to three people comfortably. I love this hammock and would recommend it to anyone. It's a great addition to any outdoor living space. Just ask Kennedy.

Poor quality hammock

Sad to report that the quality of workmanship on this XXL hammock is very poor. We had it out for 3 months and used it, only occassionally, then carefully placed it in indoor storage all winter, upon taking it out this second summer after only two days of laying in it, the ropes have broken at the point where they come out of the wooden 'stretchers'. The circles cut in the wood where the ropes run through seem to be rough and have rubbed the ropes until they severed. I had not noticed the roughness of the wood before I started looking for the culprit that broke the ropes. I am surprised at the low quality contruction for the price I paid. I thought I was getting something that would last for years, not months. On a positive note, the metal frame is good and has held up well.

I received my hammock a few days ago. I was anxious to get it installed, and was a little disappointed that I needed to run to the hardware store for a couple of carabiners, but once back with proper hardware, I was able to install the hammock between 2 trees in about 20 minutes.
The hammock is good quality and looks great.
My only dilemma is where to find the time to lay in it now!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Q1: What color is the stain used for the spreader bar?
A: When shown by itself, it is darker than it is when shown with the stand (HIB05). The main picture on HIB03 is closer to the color of the spreader bar. The lights used make a difference on the photo.
Q2: What hammock would you suggest for a 350 lb. person?
A: Depending on what type of hammock you are looking for, there are a couple different options for you. If you would like a rope hammock we would suggest HIB01 or this one, HIB03. If you would like a handmade hammock, we would suggest HA001 or HA057.
Q3: 1. What are the hammock dimensions from "bar to bar"? 2. Which should i purchase cotton or polyester? The hammock is to be on a beach.
A: This hammock's bed or area where hammock user would lie measures 6 ft. 10 in. Long x 5 ft. 5 in. Wide. With closer contact to the beach, choose the polyester - better resistance to the outer elements.
Q4: Does the hardware kit include the S Hooks? One of the comments said it didn't and I just want to make sure.
A: Yes - there are 4 "S" hooks included in the hardware.
Q5: Difference between cotton & polyester, which holds up better to outdoor weather?
A: Polyester holds up better to outdoor elements and weather. Cotton is typically considered more comfortable and softer.
