About Pawleys Island
In 1889, the Original Pawleys Island Rope Hammock was created at Pawleys Island, one of the oldest summer resorts on the South Carolina coast. When river boat pilot Captain Joshua John Ward found the grass-filled mattresses on his boat too hot in the summer, he decided to make a cool and comfortable cotton rope hammock to use on his boat. After several uncomfortable designs, Cap'n Josh made a hammock using wooden spreaders without knots. This original design has proven to be so comfortable that it's still used in Pawleys Island's popular hammocks, over a century later. Pawleys Island continues to use the highest-quality materials when making its traditional all-cotton rope, spun polyester rope, and DuraCord hammocks. The custom-designed stretcher bars are cut from seasoned Carolina red oak, then steamed, bent, drilled, sanded, and varnished to impart a comfortable sway to the hammock and to spread the rope evenly for optimum stability. Couldn't be easier! 5 main pieces that went together in about 30 seconds. Another minute to put the end-caps and hooks on. I was enjoying my hammock less than 5 minutes after it arrived. Very sturdy. It was 12 gauge instead of the 14 gauge that most of the others were made of so it will be stronger. Also, because it has the pins instead of screws I can take it down quickly and put it away if I need to. Perfectly happy!

Fedex delivered my purchase to the wrong address, so I had to drag this very heavy box for a few hundred yards to my house. The box was very sturdy, and survived me dragging it over asphalt and rocks. (so the complaints about packaging, lay to rest now.) I opened it and was not thrilled to find out that they sent me the black one, instead of the light coloured one I ordered, but it was wrapped very well in bubble wrap, and nothing was scratched in the paint job, and I had no intention of trying to return it, the thing weighs 61 pounds wrapped!
It's very easy to set up, and to take apart and move. It's held both me and my husband with our dogs in a xxlarge Brazilian hammock. I had to add one chain link and an s hook between the hammock and the holders, just to get it to hang right, but I would prefer the hammock arms to be a few inches longer for a better hang, or my hammock to be a few inches shorter. (it's 13feet long)
With us in the hammock stand, even when swinging, it seems very sturdy, and we have no concerns that it will hold us for sleeping in. (we're using as a bed) It's very easy to take apart in the morning, and push up against a wall so we have the room free for other uses!

We were very pleased with this purchase. Came by Fed-Ex in great condition. It is a quality product nice and heavy and the paint finish is great (I was worried about this). Would definetly recommend.

This stand is awesome! Supports up to 600 lbs, so it is sturdy. But it is also one of the ones that wors for different types of hammocks. Some are only recommended for stretcher bar style, but we prefer the hammocks from Latin America, & this works great for those, too. The whole family uses it - will probably have to get another. And since trees to support a hammock are not that common here in the desert backyards, this allows us to set up anywhere. Super easy to set up - took about 2 minutes.

Arrived one day sooner than expected. Was a Mother's Day gift & got here in time without having to pay extra to expedite. We were so pleased! Maybe the family will get me one for Father's Day!
