The Difference From One Rope Hammock To Another
Some hammocks are made with thin rope cord only 4mm to 6mm wide. Our Island Bay is made with 8mm rope, soft spun for comfort. The extreme thickness makes the rope much more hardy. Thinner ropes wear out faster and may not hold up to inclement weather conditions. Soft-spun 8mm rope cord gives our hammock the greatest possible balance of quality, comfort and durability.

I actually call this Island Bay hammock package a vacation package: For me, using this product is like taking a vacation every time I use it – weather pending.
After purchasing this ‘vacation package,’ I find that the flight (swinging on the hammock) is one of the best parts of the trip and falling asleep in it makes me feel like I’m in a five star hotel.
My view? Well, my backyard won’t make it into travel brochures, let’s say that.
I took my birthday money and decided to buy this Island Bay Hammock in May of 07 to put in my backyard. I purchased this specific hammock after many recommendations from fellow co-workers and I am sure glad I did. It has gotten a full year of use except when it was snowy. After all, it is a customer favorite.
The hammock stand is incredibly sturdy as more than one person has been on it at a time and you can easily adjust the height, for maximum positioning.
The rope is even more comfortable than I thought it would be. As I said earlier, I’ve fallen asleep while on it!
The pillow is “just right” as Goldilocks might say. I knew I wouldn’t want to rest my head on the rope, so the comfortable hammock pillow is a great accessory to the package.
I would add that a nice mist from the sprinkler system reminds me of vacationing at a water park!
I would definitely recommend booking this hammock! Be sure to send a postcard.

I think the hammock itself seems to be good quality - but the stand is less than poor quality - the small buttons that hold the stand together are very cheap quality and do not work well at all making the stand not sturdy or reliable. Also the paint is coming off the stand simply by putting the poles on and off. Also - the rubber ends on the stand were already worn through on some of the poles just from shipping - very poor quality rubber on them, the rest are almost worn through after only 2 days use.... overall I cannot believe I spent this much money on such cheap quality. I will be using a hammock as I live in africa - and the stand was the most important part of what I was looking for and this is not going to work.

I had been looking to buy my Husband a hammock for a while. When I found your site I felt like I hit the jackpot. My Husband was able to choose his colors, like it was made just for him. It didn't take him long to put it together, and it has been used everyday since.

The Hammock was for my husband who has acute myloid luekemia, & we are currently in the hospital for another month we have been here 3 month already. He just had a Stem Cell Transplant & once we are released from the hospital he can only be in our house or yard & the hammock was the perfect thing for him to relax on. My brother in law set it up & it looks great & is comfy.

Q1: I have a hammock stand that measures 15 ft 6 in. Will the Island Bay XL rope hammock fit this?
A: Yes the hammock will fit - but HIB20 is the full package, stand included. If you need just the hammock, you would need item HIB01.
Q2: Is the 15ft hammock stand for spreader bar hammocks weather resistant and rust proof?
A: Yes. The 15 ft. stand - in the package HIB020 - or sold on it's own as sku HSHS10, is constructed of heavy-duty 12-gauge steel for strength and powder coated for weather-resistance.
Q3: Will this hammock mold or mildew if it is outside?
A: If you're looking for a hammock that will withstand outdoor conditions such as humidity, moisture, and salt water air, we recommend a polyester hammock. The synthetic materials in polyester give it wonderful durability. Polyester fibers retain bright white and other colors. This type of hammock is resistant to harmful UV rays, mold and mildew, and it will last for years. So make sure to select Polyester in the first drop down on the page - under the "Material" option.
Q4: Which do you think will hold up better, cotton, or polyester. I'm in Florida, and the weather is great 9 months a year so it will be a permanent resident under a 100 year old oak.
A: Polyester is your winner! Polyester will always outlast cotton with regards to longevity and standing up to the elements.
Q5: Is cotton softer than the polyester? Which is more durable?
A: There are several differences between the two materials. Since cotton is natural, it is theoretically more comfortable. It will also stretch more than a synthetic fabric and contour to your body more effectively. However, cotton is more susceptible to mold and mildew damage when left outdoors. Polyester or synthetic hammocks demonstrate greater resistance to damage caused by mold and mildew. They are also more protected against UV therefore causing less color fading. These fabrics are recommended more for outdoor use. There is a slight difference in comfort, although the spun polyester is often mistaken for cotton due to its soft, non-scratchy texture.
